In-person Tutoring

Without a doubt, in-person tutoring is the most effective.  The feedback, both verbal and bodily, that can be gained from sitting with a student tells me so much.  I am not a one-size-fits-all tutor, so with that information, I can much more quickly discern how to customize a student’s work to be what THEY need it to be. Watching how a student works a problem, for instance, gives me insight into how their reasoning and thinking processes work, which helps me know how they need things explained so they can UNDERSTAND what they’re doing, not just reproduce some rote steps they memorized.

I tutor at my house in SE Greensboro.

Whiteboard Videos

Sometimes, ongoing tutoring is not needed, just help on a particular topic or lesson.

With my narrated whiteboard videos, I can record a short video with notes explaining the problem or topic in questions.

This is usually a method I use to send a quick explanation to an existing student, and is an included service in my fee.

Virtual Tutoring

Without a doubt, the #1 teaching skill that came out of COVID is virtual instruction. It can be done poorly and it can be done well.

Over the 2-1/2 years since COVID invaded my classroom, I have assembled a very effective and efficient virtual setup. Done well, virtual tutoring can be nearly as effective as in-person, and it is invaluable in a long-distance situation. I have virtually tutored students in Indiana, West Virginia, South Carolina, Virginia, and North Carolina.  Currently, about 2/3 of my tutoring is virtual.
